Just a Swingin' - CSN Spotlight

So last week I took the Scribblers out on the property for a little "Spring is Coming" walk. We went all through the forest and I had never known it before, but it seems like I have quite a few little monkeys on my hands. Every single low branch that we came to immediately had a small child hanging from it. The unfortunate things about trees...scratchy branches, splinters and soaring heights to scare a mother.

It was decided that as soon as spring hits us and the ground is thawed, a swing set is a must have item for my kiddos and my sanity.

of Romantic Thrillers for MIRA Books

MIDNIGHT CALLER, first book in the Chasing Evil trilogy, to be released February 1

ATLANTA, January 5, 2011 – Growing up, Leslie Tentler had a big imagination and a gift for writing. As an adult, the Gwinnett County resident now has a three-book deal with MIRA Books. MIDNIGHT CALLER, her debut mass-market romantic suspense novel, will be available February 1, 2011, through online booksellers and bookstores everywhere.

MIDNIGHT CALLER is the first in a series of romantic thrillers penned by Tentler and based around a fictional unit of the FBI. Two additional books in the Chasing Evil trilogy will be released in 2011 and 2012, respectively. 

Prior to signing with MIRA, Tentler worked as a writer and editor in public relations in metro Atlanta for nearly two decades, specializing in high technology and non-profit healthcare clients. Her first fiction manuscript won multiple Romance Writers of America chapter contests, including Georgia Romance Writers’ prestigious Maggie Award of Excellence.

OK. I did it. I finally published one of my mini-novels. Although at 5,023 words (give or take) it's still plenty to keep you company. I am offering it as an e-book because it was a great way to keep the cost down and provide easy accessibility.

Here is a small excerpt from "On Life's Stage"

William sat down on his bed with a heaviness that tugged at her heart and raked his fingers through his thick, black hair. His brown eyes were haunted when he looked back up at her. “I am a coward. You didn’t mistake what you heard. I am no soldier. The only fight I have ever been in was when I was six and it was over a pencil that I stole from another boy. I am, or was, a journalist and not a good one at that. I couldn’t seem to break into an actual story and thought if I went across seas, I could make a name for myself. Instead, I got into a jeep accident and lost my career and my leg. My mother wanted me to be a preacher, like my father before he died. I wanted more than that and thought her dream for me was silly. To tell people about something I don’t believe myself, I had better things to do.” He spoke the words with such guilt and sadness, that Ella Mae went to him and sat down beside him.

“You told this to Ann then?” Ella Mae asked tenderly. That must have been why Ann left his room in such a hurry. A woman like Ann would not be able to handle someone unloading their heartache on her, she wouldn’t have understood what it was like to have a dream and have it destroyed. Ella Mae understood dreams though and what it felt like to want to be something more than what everyone else wanted. If Ann had fancied William because she thought he was a brave soldier, she must have been disgusted to find out he was nothing more than a reporter in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

“No, I didn’t tell her anything about me. I didn’t have a chance. From the moment she walked in, I haven’t been able to say the right thing. She got upset because she thought I was making fun of her when all I was doing was making fun of the situation.” William explained.

The hope for Ann and William’s romance began to burn bright again. “Well, I am sure that no harm was done that can’t be repaired.” Ella Mae tried to reassure him. She was counting on their courtship to help her own self, she must do whatever it took to bridge this gap between them. “Why don’t I go with you to listen to the end of her show and then we will both talk to her,” She suggested.
